In the Shadow of Lewis and Clark was a well-written, fun read, set in the historic pioneer days. It is a coming of age tale of a young married couple crossing the United States during the 1850's, from Ohio, to Oregon. I felt I was a part of their journey as they met and overcame many obstacles along the way from the forces of nature, to race issues. The author made the time period come alive with her vivid descriptions of life during that time period and I was spellbound enough to finish Matthew and Emily's journey in two days! If you enjoy this historic time period, you will enjoy this book. I highly recommend it!
