Tens of thousands of spectators attended the fourth annual African American Day Parade in Harlem in September of 1972. The four-hour event, whose theme was Black unity, featured diverse interest groups, from dancers, bands and drill teams, to veterans associations and the Harlem Institute of Marxist Studies. Times photographer Librado Romero captured this dynamic image of parade performers playing their way up Seventh Avenue.
