Description

A loving couple and a good supply of cupid arrows make this illustration the perfect choice for “The Biggest Valentine’s Day Myths of All Time,” a tongue-in-check Times Opinion article published February 10, 2018. The image is part of our collection of editorial illustrations being offered for the first time ever to the public as unframed or framed fine-art prints.

Illustrations have played an instrumental role in The Times’s journalistic legacy since December 11, 1861, when we published our first drawings – front page cartoons of James Gordon Bennett, rival publisher of The Herald. Today, The Times commissions thousands of original illustrations from freelance artists around the world. Artists, each with a distinct approach and personality, enhance stories with thought-provoking images that enrich the reading experience.

This image is by Kaye Blegvad, an illustrator, designer and general maker-of-things. She was born and raised in London, studied illustration at the University of Brighton and now lives in Brooklyn. Her work often deals with ideas about female identity and mental health. She works across a variety of different media, including ceramics, metalwork, textiles, and printmaking. Her clients include The New York Times, The New Yorker, Penguin Random House, United Nations, The Ace Hotel, Anthropologie, Buzzfeed, Urban Outfitters and Lucky Peach.
